Dear Landowner:
- Do you have a portion of your property that you would like to see revitalized by organic vegetable production?
- Would you welcome regular visits by a respectful urban farmer throughout the season to sustain beautiful, healthy and productive vegetable beds?
- Would you like to see more of your food grown locally using sustainable, organic methods?
We are two Nelson residents operating a multi-site urban farm within the city of Nelson. If you have a minimum of 1000 square feet of unused garden space or lawn that you would like to hand over to the care of two experienced vegetable growers, we would like to hear from you!
If your land meets a few minimum requirements, we will maintain a garden on your property that will contribute an important part to our farm’s overall production, as well as to the health of your soil. We will remove any sod or weeds, prepare the soil and build beds in spring. Throughout the season we will plant, weed, and harvest a selection of herbs or vegetables chosen based on your site’s characteristics and our market requirements. We will plan our visits to fit with your personal schedule, but a certain amount of flexibility will be needed.
We promise to use only organic farming practices on your land. We believe that healthy soil produces healthy plants, and that only organic techniques can produce healthy soil.
By the end of the season you will have a tilled, levelled plot with healthier soil than you’ve ever had, even better suited for gardening again the following season.
A fair exchange for the use of your land will be discussed and may include fresh produce throughout the year.
